Yoga Teacher Training

1–28 November 2018

Our 200-hour Orion Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Course provides an in-depth exploration of the fundamentals of Vinyasa Yoga and Mysore Style (self-practice) in the spirit of tradition of the parampara; teacher – student transmission. This hands-on training will guide you step-by-step through each posture, transition, and sequence.  Study classical yoga philosophy with truly experienced teachers, build  a solid foundation for your practice and acquire the skills to teach this  style of dynamic yoga with precision and confidence.

In this four-week yoga teacher training course, you will:

•  Deepen your yoga practice physically, mentally, spiritually and psychologically.
•  Equip yourself with the tools to confidently share your knowledge  as a certified yoga teacher.
• Learn exceptional hands-on teaching techniques and practical  adjustments.
• Learn how to count and lead with great flow and confidence.
• Develop your own unique style of intuitive observation of the physical and emotional structure of your students, to confidently run Mysore program and other yoga classes in your studio.
• Study traditional yoga philosophy and texts: Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and works of Advaita Vedanta.
• Learn pranayama, meditation, mantra, bandha, and kriya.
• Understand correct alignment on our Iyengar rope wall.

Transform

Throughout your 200-hour YTTC, you will learn two distinct but  complementary styles of yoga – Orion Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga. These two styles in combination will bring balance to your practice by combining an active (Yang) and a passive (Yin) practice. Restorative Yoga is a meditative yoga practice with slow, gentle and rocking  movements. You will learn how to create a sequence that is deeply  nourishing and guide students in a gentle transition from one asana  (pose) to another by flowing seamlessly into a relaxing, deeply de-stressing and contemplative practice.

Through breath, the rhythm of the count and movement you will build a deep focus  which manifests as a state of tranquility in the mind. Get to know the  art of vinyasa flow (Tristana), learn perfect alignment in each pose and discover  the joy of teaching challenging transitions so that you feel confident  enough to guide your students on their path towards a real understanding of the Yoga practice on and off the mat. Experience dynamic meditation through movement and find  an equilibrium between mind, body, and soul. Learn the art of intuitive touch and technical adjustment and  understand how bodywork can become a vehicle for spiritual transformation.

In joining this training you will embark on a journey of  transformation and benefit from everything Orion Healing Centre has to offer by learning to teach yoga in an environment dedicated to peace and well-being.

Balance

Here you can develop a balanced lifestyle – one of wholesomeness, creativity, balance, and confidence. At Orion, we encourage students to enhance the benefits of the yoga practice by cultivating a calm mind and meditative state through a Sattvic diet, eating plant-based foods, inspired by one of the core ethical guidelines of yoga – ‘ahimsa’ (non- violence).  Eating at our famous vegan and raw café will demonstrate the benefits of a yogic diet immediately. Locally sourced, fresh and organic – our menu offers a wide selection of drinks, smoothies, breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Become part of the Orion Yoga Teacher community and learn how to bring a conscious community spirit back home with you to create your own sangha.

Our teachers are here to offer guidance, support, and first-hand insight  into the business side of yoga teaching in the modern world. This will be of invaluable help as you take your first steps towards becoming a  successful yoga teacher.

Teachers

Lead Teacher – Ewa Juszczyk

Ewa has been practicing yoga for 16 years, and teaching since 2004. Her yoga journey began with Iyengar Yoga in 2000 when she studied with Geeta Iyengar. Her yoga journey continued when she discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and studied under Authorized Level II Teacher, Basia Lipska. Further studies brought her to Mysore to study with BNS Iyengar in 2012. The same year, Ewa studied intensively with Kamal Singh in Rishikesh, India.

Other authorized teachers Ewa has studied with are: Maty Ezraty, Tim Feldman, Petri Reisenen, Noah McKenna, Ajay Tokas, Kino MacGregor, and Bela Lipat. Over the years, she continued her yogic studies of Yin, Vinyasa, Pranayama, Yoga Philosophy, Alignment, Slow Flow, and Flex. Recently Ewa runs the Ashtanga Mysore Program at Yoga Maya and Yoga Therapy Programs for Dancers and Musicians at Codarts in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Ewa views her yogic practice as Art, Philosophy, and Science. She personally follows the dictum that to be a teacher, one must first be a student, and knows the greatest lessons a teacher can learn come from experience with a variety of situations and students. She believes that as a teacher, it is essential to stay open to the continuous learning process, be aware of opportunities for growth, and practice with gratitude.

Supporting Teacher – Betty Kah

Already at the age of a teenager, Betty was aware of her desire for practicing body, mind and soul. Soon the longing for Mother India became an inner calling and she commenced her everlasting journey of yoga and adventure.

In India and Australia she completed from 1997 until 2003 several profound Iyengar yoga and Vinyasa yoga teacher trainings. During this time, Betty was also fortunate to do workshops with, and be guided by, some of the great yogis of our time: BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, T.K.V. Desikachar and AG Mohan. She also is a qualified Pilates instructor and Laughter Yoga teacher. Over the past two decades, Betty has taught yoga everywhere from shalas in rural India, to mega-gyms in Sydney’s CBD.

Her style of teaching can be described as fusion yoga, since her multi-disciplined approach combines everything from Power Vinyasa to Yoga Nidra, a guided yogic sleep. Passionate about blending eastern and Western perspectives in her teaching, Betty is known for her ability to weave together intelligent sequencing, articulate alignment, and practical insights in an accessible manner. Her emphasis is on using the movement of strong asana to discover the quiet still-point within.

Betty has since trained thousands of yoga teachers all over the globe in 200- and 500-hour teacher trainings, and as resident teacher trainer at Byron Yoga Centre for 18 years. Betty continues to teach yoga and lead training courses in Koh Phangan, Thailand, where she lives with her husband, Swami Pujan. On top of teaching asana, Betty specialises in Yoga Nidra. She has a special skill of creating scripts that guide people in and out of the restorative yogic sleep. Betty has produced four Yoga Nidra CDs for adults and one for children.

Philosophy – Swami Pujan

Swami Pujan (Stephan Kahlert) is a German-born Psychologist who studied Yoga Philosophy (Jnana Yoga) in India and Australia for many years. He received the title of “Swami” after initiation with his teacher, Bhagavan Shree Rajneesh, who is a world-renowned spiritual guide and teacher from Puma, India. Through his first teacher, he continues to transmit the message that spirituality is a joyful journey, filled with passion and the celebration of life. After the passing of his teacher in 1990, Swami Pujan pursued his interest in studying Theravada Buddhism and teaching Vipassana Meditation Retreats in Australia and New Zealand, as well as studying Soto Zen Buddhism under the Japanese master, Hogen Daido Yamahata.

In Australia, he was the staff teacher at Byron Yoga Center for over ten years and facilitated seminars and retreats all over Asia and Europe. He currently resides on Koh Phangan with his wife, sharing his knowledge in a very approachable way for Western students. His teaching style is fun and engaging, and he has the ability to explain complex Eastern philosophical concepts in an easy-to-grasp way for people of all levels.
