Grow Wheatgrass at home

If you experienced one of our detox programs at Orion, you probably had the chance to taste our amazing wheatgrass juice. Just one shot per day can do so much good in your life. Wheatgrass is considered by many people to be the most healing of all grasses.  It is one of the richest sources of vitamins A and C, and depending on the quality of the soil you will choose, it can contain all of the known mineral elements such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, sulfur, sodium, cobalt and zinc.  Wheatgrass is also abundant in vitamin B-17, a substance that can destroy cancer cells selectively.

Our goal at Orion Healing Center is to make it as easy as possible for our guests to continue their healthy lifestyle at home once they have left Orion. You can spend as little as $1 per week to grow your own wheatgrass at home. All you need is a wheatgrass juicer (slow juicer) and growing supplies.

What you need

  • Organic hard wheat
  • Natural soil (Basic potting mix or topsoil will work fine. Peat moss is an important ingredient to look for in your soil so if you have to add it, the mix is one part peat moss to three parts soil, filled halfway up a two-inch deep tray.)
  • Springwater
  • 2 trays (one of them with little holes in the bottom)

How to grow your wheatgrass

1- Soak 1 cup of hard wheat seed overnight (8 to 12 hours).

2- In the morning, rinse the seeds.

3- Fill the tray without holes with soil (about 1 inch)

4- Plant the seed on top of the soil.

5- Water the tray and then cover with the other tray. Place in the dark. Water every day

6- On the fourth day, uncover grass (roots should begin to take over your soil), water heavily once a day and keep the grass in the shade (never direct sunlight).

7- For mold problems, increase your air circulation with a fan

8- The average growing time is seven to 12 days, depending on the weather. Harvest grass when a second blade of grass appears on the grass blades, or when the grass “splits” toward the bottom of the blade. Only harvest once. Keep the cut grass in the fridge for about a week, then start the process all over again with new seeds and soil.

Easy to grow at your home!

Drink a shot a day or more. You can also mix it up with water or mix in your favorite smoothie.
